MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State women's basketball incoming freshman forward Estel Puiggros (Manrese, Spain) was recently tabbed as the Most Valuable Player for the FIBA 3x3 U18 Europe Cup Qualifier in Rieti, Italy.
Puiggros, along with her teammates, went 2-1 at the tournament after knocking off Great Britain (11-4) and Italy (12-11) to earn a spot in September's FIBA Europe Cup. Puiggros was Spain's leading scorer and finished third overall in points amongst all women's participants. Along with Spain, Great Britain and Italy, other countries represented included Germany, Ireland and Poland. Puiggros will be unable to compete in the FIBA Europe Cup event, as she will report to Ball State's campus this month for her first year with the Cardinals.
FIBA 3x3 basketball is considered the number one urban team sport in Europe. It gives players, organizers and countries the opportunity to go from the streets to the world stage. The stars of the game play in a professional tour and some of the most prestigious multi-sport events. The 3x3 event will be part of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
