Veteran BSU receiver among contenders for nation’s top receiver award
2019 Watch List
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's Riley Miller was named Thursday to the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the top receiver in college football.
Â
Miller was one of two Mid-American Conference players on the watch list, joining Western Michigan's D'Wayne Eskridge. The Cardinals have had a representative on the list in six of the past seven years, most recently Justin Hall last year.
Â
Miller ranked third in the MAC in receptions per game (5.1) and fourth in receiving yards per game (73.2) on his way to second-team all-conference honors last season. The former walk-on from nearby Yorktown led the Cardinals in receiving yards (878) and touchdown catches (7). His 208 yards last season against Kent State rank among the top-10 single-game outputs in program history.
Â
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc., presents the Biletnikoff Award annually to the most outstanding NCAA Football Subdivision (FBS) receiver across the nation. Any player, regardless of position, who catches passes is eligible for the award.
Â
The recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators and former receivers. The foundation will announce 10 semifinalists Nov. 18 and three finalists Nov. 25.
Â
The winner will be presented the Biletnikoff Award trophy by TQC Foundation Chairman Steve Dobson, III, college and pro football hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff, and college football hall of famer Lou Holtz before 550 patrons at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet at the University Center Club at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020.Â
Â
The award's namesake, Fred Biletnikoff, was a consensus All-America receiver at Florida State University, and an All-Pro receiver for the Oakland Raiders. Biletnikoff caught 589 passes for 8,974 yards and 76 touchdowns in his 14-year Raiders career from 1965 through 1978. He was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XI.Â
