Ten BSU teams record perfect single-year scores for most recent reporting year
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Two-thirds of Ball State's athletic teams exceeded the national average in the latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores released Wednesday by the NCAA. Ten BSU teams posted perfect single-year marks for the latest reporting year.
Â
The women's tennis and cross country teams recorded perfect multi-year scores of 1,000 and earned NCAA Public Recognition awards. The nationwide average was 983, the highest in the 14-year history of the program.
Â
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. It accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.Â
Â
The numbers announced this week include data for the four-year period from 2014-15 through 2017-18. All of Ball State's teams easily cleared the multi-year benchmark score of 930 required to avoid NCAA penalties. The average for the Cardinals' 18 teams (indoor and outdoor track combined as one)Â was nearly 984.
Â
In addition to women's tennis and cross country, the other Ball State teams with perfect single-year scores for 2017-18 were women's basketball, women's golf, soccer, men's swimming, women's swimming, men's tennis, track and men's volleyball.
Â
Fourteen BSU teams matched or exceeded their multi-year averages from a year ago. The men's tennis team made the biggest jump, climbing 16 points to 993. The men's volleyball (995), gymnastics (995), men's swimming (995) and women's swimming (993) teams were also better than 990.
