Ball State Student-Athletes Raise GPA Yet Again
May 28, 2019 | General
Nearly three quarters of BSU student-athletes have a GPA better than 3.0
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's 3.26 cumulative GPA for student-athletes following the 2018 fall semester was its highest in at least 10 years. Until now.
Â
The Cardinals one-upped that mark this spring, wrapping up the term with a cumulative student-athlete GPA of 3.27. It is the seventh time in the past eight semesters the number has risen (the other time it stayed the same).
Â
Nearly 74 percent of Ball State student-athletes finished the spring semester with a cumulative GPA better than 3.0, while more than 40 percent posted a mark of 3.5 or better for the term.
Â
Fifty-five BSU student-athletes recorded a 4.0 GPA for the spring, and 14 ended the semester with a perfect cumulative mark.
Â
"Our student-athletes continue to push themselves on the field of play and in the classroom, and I couldn't be more proud," Ball State Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said. "We are also lucky to have outstanding faculty and a quality support staff here at Ball State to encourage our student-athletes to always strive to do their best."
Â
The women's volleyball team, which won the MAC West Division last fall, finished the year with the highest marks of any Ball State team for both term GPA (3.707) and cumulative GPA (3.671). The women's golf team was just behind in the cumulative count at 3.630.
Â
The men's volleyball team recorded the highest marks among Ball State teams on the men's side for both term (3.385) and cumulative (3.481) GPAs. Its cumulative number narrowly edged the men's golf team (3.479).
Â
Ball State placed 175 student-athletes on the Dean's List this semester, while 65 either earned degrees this spring or will do so later this summer.
