April 20, 2019 | Men's Tennis
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The No. 5 Ball State men's tennis team (12-14) ended its 2019 season after falling 5-0 to No. 1 Western Michigan (17-8) in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Sorensen Courts.
The doubles point could've gone either way today. Western Michigan did take the top court from the Cardinals 6-0 but the remaining two spots were tight matches. Tom Carney and Thibault de Negri evened doubles play with a 7-5 win at position two over the Broncos Jack Randall and Peter Kusynski. The point came down to Conner Andersen and Chris Adams, although it was close, the Cardinals would fall to the Broncos by a score of 7-5 giving WMU the early 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
Western Michigan started off strong at the start of singles play after taking first sets on all six courts from Ball State. Nemanja Guzina fell first at No. 2 to give WMU the 2-0 edge. After that, De Negri went down in straight sets and then the Broncos secured its victory over the Cardinals after Matej Svjetlicic took down Conner Andersen at position five, 6-4, 6-3.
