Cardinals climb five spots, led by Liz Kim’s career-best round of 1-under 71
RICHMOND, Ky. -- After a challenging opening day at the EKU Colonel Classic, the Ball State women's golf team was the biggest mover in the field in Saturday's final round.
The Cardinals climbed five spots from 11th place to finish sixth at the University Club at Arlington. Tournament champion and host Eastern Kentucky was the only one of the 13 teams to post a better final-round score than Ball State's 298.
EKU completed the event with a total of 875 (+11), 13 shots clear of second-place Northern Illinois. Ball State (+58) jumped just ahead of fellow MAC teams Ohio and Akron on the final leaderboard.
Liz Kim led the Cardinals' Saturday charge with a career-best, 1-under par 71, tying individual medalist Elsa Moberly of EKU for the low round of the day. Moberly won by four shots at 212 (-4) for the tournament. Kim was Ball State's best finisher in 11th place, matching her best career 54-hole total at 222 (+6).
The Cardinals also counted a 73 from Hadley Moritz and rounds of 77 from Manon Tounalom and Dylann Armstrong on the final day. Tounalom (T20) had her sixth top-20 finish in seven stroke play starts this season, while Moritz (T24) posted her second straight top-25.
Ball State has one event remaining on its schedule before the MAC Championships. The Cardinals will play April 8-9 at Georgetown's Hoya Invitational at the Members Club at Four Streams in Poolesville, Maryland.
