Men's Tennis Dominates IUPUI In Mid-Week Non-Conference Action
March 27, 2019 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Cardinals improved to 10-9 on the season after their dominating 6-1 win over IUPUI (10-6) Wednesday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
It didn't take long for the Cardinals to take the early momentum at the start of doubles play today against IUPUI. The No. 1 twin brother duo of Nemanja and Marko Guzina did not give up a game to the Jaguars' Alex Jochim and Colton Morehart, winning the match 6-0. Both of Ball State's remaining courts were up a game each over their respective opponents. On court three, Conner Andersen and Chris Adams clinched the point with their 6-3 victory over Ethan Mardanus-Budio and Sean Bailey.
Andersen would be the first Cardinal off the court in singles play after beating Mikel Saavedra at the No. 6 slot, 6-0, 6-0. Ball State had taking first sets on courts, two, three and five over IUPUI but trailed at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions.
After that, Marko Guzina beat Sean Bailey in straight sets on court two, giving Ball State the 3-0 lead over IUPUI. With three courts remaining and the Cardinals needing just one more point for win, De Negri registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Morehart at position three to clinch the victory for the Ball State.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to Mid-American Conference action Sunday, at home against Northern Illinois at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. If inclement weather occurs, the Cardinals will move indoors at the Northwest Muncie YMCA where they will host the Huskies at 5 p.m.
