March 17, 2019 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team (9-8, 1-1 MAC) picked up a 5-2 victory over Northern Illinois (8-9, 0-2 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action Sunday afternoon at the Northwest Muncie YMCA.
The Cardinals took the early 1-0 edge over the Huskies after winning the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Marko and Nemanja Guzina were the first off the court for Ball State. The duo took down Victor Spolidorio and Mikko Malinen, 6-2. Courts two and three were both down at the start of doubles action but fought back to make it a close competition. Chris Adams paired up with Conner Andersen for the 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot, clinching the early lead for Ball State.
Marko Guzina took down David Pata in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Carney then made it a 3-0 match after his 6-3, 7-5 victory over Spolidorio on court six.
With four courts remaining, NIU took the top court from Ball State to make the score 3-1. Thibault de Negri, Adams and Andersen had all sent their respective competitions in to three sets. After dropping the first frame at four, Adams came back in sets two and three to claim the win for Ball State over NIU. Andersen would also end up winning his match and despite a strong effort, De Negri fell in a third set tiebreaker.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action Friday at Toledo. First serve is at 1 p.m.
