Men’s Tennis Dominates MAC Weekly Accolades

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Nemanja Guzina was tabbed Mid-American Conference singles player of the week, while teammates sophomore Thibault de Negri and senior Tom Carney were honored with the league's doubles team of the week.
Nemanja Guzina went 6-0 last week in singles action. He started off the week with two singles victories in California Monday during the Cardinals' spring break trip, after earning a win on the top court against the University of California San Diego and then closed out the doubleheader registering another victory at the No. 2 position over Villanova.
After that, Ball State returned home and Nemanja took down IU Southeast in straight sets on Friday. He later won at the top singles spot against Taylor before closing out the weekend on Sunday by clinching match point for the Cardinals over Eastern Illinois at the No. 2 position. Nemanja managed to win all of his six matches last week in straight sets.
The MAC also recognized today the Ball State duo of De Negri and Carney. The doubles tandem went 5-0 last week on court two. De Negri and Carney began the week with a 6-2 take down over Villanova and were the first off the court for the Cardinals. The twosome continued their winning ways with a 6-3 defeat over UC San Diego's Sahm Irvine and Neil Tengbumroong. After the Cardinals returned home from spring break they claimed two wins over IU Southeast Friday and then Eastern Illinois on Sunday. The win Sunday over EIU earned Ball State the doubles point over the Panthers.
The Ball State men's tennis team opens Mid-American Conference action Friday against Western Michigan and then hosts Northern Illinois Sunday. Both matches will start at 1 p.m. and will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
