February 08, 2019 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Former Ball State football offensive lineman Kitt O'Brien will be part of a new football league set to kick off this weekend – the Alliance of American Football (AAF).
O'Brien earned a spot on the Birmingham Iron, one of eight teams in the AAF. Founded by TV and film producer Charlie Ebersol and Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Polian, the Alliance will have a 12-week season culminating with the championship game the weekend of April 26-28. The Iron open play against the Memphis Express Sunday afternoon at Legion Field in Birmingham at 4 p.m. ET (3 p.m. CT).
A native of Walton, Indiana, O'Brien started 35 games on the offensive line in his Ball State career between 2009 and 2012. As a senior, he helped lead the way for running back Jahwan Edwards, who racked up the third most rushing yards in Ball Sate single season history (1,410). O'Brien was also a part of the 2012 team that earned a spot in the 2012 Beef 'O' Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl against UCF.
O'Brien went on to play for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League (AFL) for three years (2013-15) and has also spent time on the practice squad for the Indianapolis Colts.
