Men's Tennis Plays First Match In California; Loses To Pepperdine

LAJOLLA, Calif. - The Ball State men's tennis team (2-6) began its spring break trip in California this afternoon with a dual match against Pepperdine (2-4). The Cardinals fell to the Waves by a 5-2 decision.
The No. 3 twosome of Tom Carney and Chris Adams were the lone duo to win in doubles for Ball State today. Carney and Adams took down the Waves' Pawel Jankowiak and Felipe Galvao, 6-2. Pepperdine took victories from the Cardinals on the top two courts to take the early 1-0 edge over BSU heading into singles play.
The Waves' continued to their winning ways in singles action taking four of the six courts from the Cardinals. For Ball State, Bryce Bonin and Conner Andersen earned three set thrillers over their respective opponents. Bonin took the first set from Scotland Garapedian 6-4 at the No. 5 position before losing the second frame 6-4. He then won the match by becoming victorious in the third set, 6-2. Andersen also defeated Pawel Jankowiak in set one 6-4 before losing the second by a score of 6-2. Andersen went on to take the match in the third frame over Jankowiak 6-1 on court six.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues spring break action in California when it plays at the Pacific Coast Doubles event Friday through Sunday in Lajolla, Calif.
