"Unreal" Feeling As Cardinals Compete In Intrasquad Meet
December 08, 2019 | Gymnastics
After three surgeries and questioning if she could ever compete again, Bri Slonim stepped up on the beam and competed for her teammates. When she landed the routine below, her teammates engulfed her with hugs.
"Unreal," Slonim said. "I just wanted to do it for my teammates. I still want to compete for them. They've always had my back."
Head coach Joanna Saleem cited Slonim's performance on the balance beam as one of the strong points to Sunday's Red-White intrasquad meet. She also pointed to Megan Teter on the bars and Claudia Goyco on the floor.Â
"The choreography of our floor routines and more fan-friendly and fun this year," Saleem said. "You can see the team is a lot more engaged in them and it's exciting to see."
Marissa Nychyk, a sophomore who qualified for the NCAA Regional and was the team's leading scorer last year, competed all-around and Saleem cited her as being strong and consistent. "Marissa did a solid job."
The meet consisted of one-on-one matchups in each event and each matchup worth one point. Celebrity judges scored the event 9-6 in favor of the Red team.
