December 17, 2019 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State head football coach Mike Neu announced Tuesday afternoon that Tyler Stockton has been promoted to defensive coordinator. He will continue to serve as the inside linebackers coach.
Stockton joined the Cardinals coaching staff in December 2018 as the co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. Ball State's defense forced 24 turnovers this season, which ranked 10th nationally and were the most forced by BSU since 2014. The defense capped the 2019 campaign on a high note by blanking eventual MAC champion Miami (Ohio) in the second half as Ball State rallied for a 41-27 victory.
Stockton previously coached at Western Illinois (2016-18) and began his career as a graduate assistant at Connecticut (2014-15).
He played collegiate football at Notre Dame where he helped the Fighting Irish make appearances in the 2010 Sun Bowl (champions), 2013 BCS National Championship game and 2013 Pinstripe Bowl (champions). Stockton was a member of the nation's top-ranked defense in the 2012 season when the Fighting Irish advanced to the national championship game against Alabama.
Stockton earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Notre Dame in 2013 and followed with an MBA in corporate finance in 2014.
