TIME FOR TIP-OFF
- Ball State and Purdue Fort Wayne have met five times, with the Cardinals leading the all-time series record, 5-0.
- Ball State and Purdue Fort Wayne's last meeting was in 2013 in Fort Wayne. The Cardinals defeated the Mastodons, 83-75.
- Brady Sallee's first career win at the helm of the Cardinals came against Purdue Fort Wayne on Nov. 19, 2012 in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals defeated the Mastodons that season, 53-46.
- Purdue Fort Wayne has started its season off with a 2-0 record, with wins against Purdue Northwest (73-50) and UIC (61-50).
- Ball State will face three Indiana schools in non-conference action this season, IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne and Butler. The Cardinals opened their season at IUPUI on Nov. 5 resulting in a 65-48 loss for BSU. Ball State will face its last Division I school from Indiana when BSU hosts Butler on Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
- Purdue Fort Wayne owns an 8-30 all-time record when playing teams from the Mid-American Conference. Purdue Fort Wayne has registered wins against these MAC schools, Akron, Kent State, Miami, Toledo and Western Michigan.
- Sallee is 9-13 all-time at Ball State against teams from the state of Indiana.
- Ball State and Purdue Fort Wayne are approximately 72 miles apart.
STORY LINES
BALL STATE VS. PURDUE FORT WAYNE
- The Cardinals and the Mastodons will square off for the first time since the 2013-14 season. Ball State played at Purdue Fort Wayne on Dec. 29 of that year, winning the game 83-75. Historically, the Cardinals are undefeated against the Mastodons, leading the all-time series record, 5-0.
BROWN EARNS PRESEASON\ ALL-MAC ACCOLADES
- Junior forward Oshlyn Brown was selected as a member of the the 2019-2020 All-Mid-American Conference Team which was announced last week by the league office. Brown is a two-time post season All-MAC recipient, earning All-MAC Honorable Mention as a sophomore and was tabbed MAC Sixth Player of the Year as a freshman. Brown enters her junior season with 656 points and 532 rebounds for her career along with 17 double-doubles. She currently ranks fourth all-time in rebounds for a single-season which she accomplished last year with 290 rebounds. She also led the Cardinals last season in scoring (12.7 ppg) and rebounding (9.4 rpg).
SAMZ CAN SHOOT
- Graduate senior guard Jasmin Samz has shot 47 percent or better from the field in each of her first two seasons as a Cardinal. Last year, she led the Cardinals in shooting percentage and was second in 2017.
REBOUND THAT BASKETBALL
- Junior Oshlynn Brown continues to be a threat on the boards for the Cardinals. She not only currently has 537 rebounds for her career but she is also the second highest rebounder per game returning from the Mid-American Conference this year. Brown in her last two seasons has averaged 8.4 reboounds per game out of 63 contests played. Brown registered six double-doubles last season. Below are Brown's accomplishments.

A CARDINAL WIN WOULD
- A Cardinal win would give Brady Sallee his 129th career victory.
- Would keep Ball State undefeated in the all-time series record against Purdue Fort Wayne,
improving to 6-0.
- Would give Ball State its win of the season.
- Would give Brady Sallee his 10th win over a school from Indiana.
BALL STATE OPENS SEASON WITH 3-STRAIGHT ROAD GAMES
- For the first time since the 2004-05 season the Cardinals will be on the road for their first three non-conference games. Ball State makes its first appearance in Worthen Arena this year on Wednesday, Nov. 20 against Xavier. That game will be the Cardinals fourth annual Kids Day Event with the game starting at 11:30 a.m. The event is open to elementary and middle school aged children.
DOUBLE-TROUBLE
- Three out of the Cardinals four home non-conference games this season will be played on the same day as the Ball State men's basketball team. You can catch both programs on Nov. 20 with the women facing Xavier at 11:30 a.m. and the men will take on Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. Both teams play again on Nov. 23 and on Dec. 7.
CLEPHANE'S COMEBACK
- Redshirt freshman Anna Clephane suffered a season ending injury last year at home against Vanderbilt on Dec. 6. Through surgery and rehab she has returned to the lineup. Clephane came off of the bench in the Cardinals season opener against IUPUI and led Ball State in scoring at the half with six points.
20+ WIN SEASONS
- The Cardinals have won 20 or more games seven times in program history, including a school-record three seasons in a row from 2015-2018 under the guidance of Brady Sallee. Ball State's first 20+ win season was in 2001-02 under former head coach Tracy Roller, that year the Cardinals finished with an overall record of 24-8.
NOT A FRESHMAN ANYMORE
- Sophomore Thelma Dis Augustdottir led the Cardinals in scoring at IUPUI with 11 points. She went 4-of-7 from the field including two 3-pointers.
SCOUTING PURDUE FORT WAYNE
- The Mastodons are coming off of a 61-50 victory at home last Thursday against UIC. Purdue Fort Wayne's defense held the Flames to only one basket in the first half of play. Purdue Fort Wayne's Michelle Nicholls led all scorers with 18 points.
- Purdue Fort Wayne is a member of the Summit League Conference. This season will be the Mastodons' last year in the Summit League.
- Purdue Fort Wayne will join the Horizon League in 2020-2021.
- In two games, Purdue Fort Wayne has outscored its opponents by 17 points and has scored 22.5 points off of their opponents turnovers.
- Purdue Fort Wayne has four players averaging double figures, with Riley Ott leading the way averaging 16.5 points per game. Michelle Nicholls is second on the team, scoring 13.0 points per contest, followed by her teammates Sh'Toya Sanders (11.0 ppg) and Hanna Albrecht (10.0 ppg).
- Purdue Fort Wayne's head coach is Niecee Nelson, she enters her fourth year at the helm of the Mastodons. In four seasons, Nelson's has registered an 18-70 overall record at Purdue Fort Wayne and a 6-40 Summit League Conference mark. Prior to her appointment at Purdue Fort Wayne, Nelson was an assistant coach at San Diego (2005-16). Her first full time assistant coaching job was at Purdue Fort Wayne in 2004-05.
- What is a Mastodon? Mastodons are any species of extinct proboscideans in the genus Mammut, distantly related to elephants, that inhabited North and Central America during the late Miocene or late Pliocene up to their extinction at the end of the Pleistocene 10,000 to 11,000 years ago.
- Purdue Fort Wayne used to be IPFW. The name of the instituition was changed officially on July 1, 2018. The name change was part of Purdue and Indiana Universities work to realign IPFW into two separate institutions.
