WVB's Natalie Risi Named MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week
October 21, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - - After turning in a pair of solid performances to pace the Ball State women's volleyball offense last weekend, outside attacker Natalie Risi has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week.
"Risi definitely led the way for us this past weekend," head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said. "She found any little seam in the block and worked hard to get quality swings. She keeps getting better every weekend."
The 6-foot freshman from Clarkston, Michigan, led the Ball State offense with a 4.17 kills-per-set average and hit an impressive .269 (25-4-78) over the team's two matches. She was also solid on defense, tying for second on the squad with a 3.33 digs-per-set average.
In last Friday's sweep at Ohio, Risi smashed 11 kills and registered a .256 (11-1-39) attack percentage. She also collected seven digs and a block assists, while recording a perfect reception percentage on 20 attempts.
She followed with her fourth double-double of the season, scoring team-highs of 14 kills and 13 digs, Saturday at Kent State. Risi also led the Ball State offense with a .282 (14-3-39) attack percentage against the Golden Flashes, while successfully passing 22 of the 24 serves she faced.
For the year, Risi is averaging 2.70 kills per set, 2.74 digs per set and hitting at a .192 (208-81-662) clip.
After playing six of their first eight MAC matches on the road, including each of the last four, Risi and the Ball State women's volleyball team return to Muncie for four straight starting Friday (Oct. 25) at 7 p.m. versus Miami.
