Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback at Kent State
October 19, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
KENT, Ohio - - Freshman outside attacker Natalie Risi registered her fourth double-double of the season, but it was not enough to lift the Ball State women's volleyball team past a suddenly surging Kent State squad Saturday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center.
After opening the weekend with a sweep at Ohio Friday night, the Cardinals (11-9; 5-3 Mid-American Conference) could not gain any traction Saturday evening in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) setback to the Golden Flashes (10-10; 3-5 MAC) who have won three of their last four matches.
Risi was Ball State's top all-around player Saturday, smashing a team-high 14 kills and adding a team-best 13 digs. She also paced the Cardinals with a .282 (14-3-39) attack percentage, while adding an ace and a block assist.
Freshman outside Natalie Mitchem was second on the squad with seven kills, while freshman defensive specialist Maggie Huber was right behind Risi with 11 digs.
The Kent State defense limited Ball State to a .164 (38-19-116) attack percentage, while its offense connected at a .293 (44-10-116) clip. The Golden Flashes also out-aced (10-to-4) and out-blocked (6-to-3) the Cardinals, while Ball State managed a 53-to-47 edge in team digs.
After playing six of its first eight MAC matches on the road, including each of the last four, the Ball State women's volleyball team returns to Muncie for four straight starting Friday (Oct. 25) versus Miami.
