Tounalom Finishes Runner-Up, Women’s Golf Third at Redbird Invitational

Cardinals wrap up first tournament of 2018-19, look ahead to home event next week
NORMAL, Ill. -- Manon Tounalom moved up one spot to finish runner-up, and the Ball State women's golf team held on to third place Monday at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational.
Tounalom carded a final-round score of 2-over par 74 to finish with a career-low 54-hole total of 217 (+1) at Weibring Golf Club. She beat her previous best by seven strokes.
The junior from France was within one shot of the lead on her opening nine holes Monday before overnight co-leader Brielle Ward of Northern Illinois closed strong to win by five. It was Tounalom's best career finish.
Northern Illinois also claimed the team championship with a score of 882 (+18). The Huskies led by 15 shots entering the day and won by 17 over Eastern Kentucky (+35). Ball State (+52) finished third in the 14-team field and was second among the five competing Mid-American Conference teams.
Tounalom made nine birdies over the three rounds this week and played the par-5's in 4 under par. She picked up where she left off last season when she was the Cardinals' top finisher in nine of 11 tournaments.
Sophomore Liz Kim carded Ball State's lowest round of the day with a 73 to climb 14 spots into a tie for 22nd place. Every player competing for Ball State moved up the leaderboard Monday.
The Cardinals also counted a 77 from sophomore Emily Knouff and a 78, shot by both Morgan Lewis and Hadley Moritz, in the final round. Lewis, a freshman from Fishers, Indiana, tied for 34th among 84 golfers in her first collegiate tournament.
Ball State will return to action next week with its home tournament The Cardinal Classic at The Players Club in Yorktown. The first two rounds will be played Monday and the final round Tuesday.
