Volleyball Tops UIndy in Exhibition Play
August 17, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - In its only tune-up before the 2018 season, the Ball State women's volleyball team scored a 3-0 victory over UIndy Friday night in exhibition play at Worthen Arena.
Playing in front of a loud, vocal and supportive home crowd, the Cardinals rolled to a .425 attack percentage to win the match in straight sets.
"Our main focus tonight was being aggressive," head coach Kelli Miller said. "From point one, we talked about being aggressive on every swing, having intent with every swing. I felt like we came out swinging from the get go, and we gained a lot of confidence early which allowed us to continue to roll throughout the match."
Overall, 14 of the Cardinals 16 players contributed in the victory, with nine different players smashing at least two kills.
Defensively, Ball State limited the Greyhounds offense to a .071 attack percentage, holding a 40 to 28 advantage in team digs.
"Every team, every year is different regardless of bringing back a majority of your players, which is the story of this team," Miller said. "This group has a different fire in their eye than groups we have had in years past. They are on a mission to be the best versions of themselves. We are not focusing on other people, we are really focusing on being the best versions of ourselves. I think that is making a big difference."
The Ball State women's volleyball team officially opens the season next weekend at the Dayton Invitational. The Cardinals start the two-day tournament Friday (Aug. 24) with a 3 p.m. match versus South Alabama, before a pair of Saturday (Aug. 25) matches against Dayton (1 p.m.) and Marshall (5 p.m.).
