LINKS: Complete Schedule
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State cross country program will hit the course running a month from today (July 31), when it opens the 2018 season Aug. 31 at the Butler Twilight.
Â
For the Cardinals, who return 10 letterwinners and all five scored runners from last season's Mid-American Conference Championship, it will be the fifth straight season the team travels down I-69 to begin the year on the Bulldogs' course at Northview Christian Church in Carmel, Indiana.
Â
"With a solid core of returning runners and a talented group of incoming freshmen, our goal was to put together a schedule that will not only help us grow together as a team early, but also challenge us to compete at a high level each time we are out on the course," first-year distance coach Rachel McFarlane said. "Overall, I believe we have a great mix of meets that will do just that and prepare us to be our best at the MAC Championship and beyond. We are really looking forward to the start of the cross country season and seeing what this team is capable of accomplishing on the course."Â Â
Â
Ball State will remain in the state of Indiana for the second weekend of the season, this time traveling up I-69 to complete in the Indiana Wesleyan University Twilight Classic held Sept. 7.
Â
The month of September will also see the Cardinals travel to Michigan State University for the Spartan Invitational held Sept. 14 and to the city of Louisville for Greater Louisville Classic which will be run Sept. 29.
Â
Ball State's final regular season meet will be the Jenna Strong Invitational hosted Oct. 12 by Wilmington College. From there, the Cardinals will have two weeks to prepare for the 2018 MAC Championships which held Oct. 27 in Toledo, Ohio.
Â
Following the MAC Championships, Ball State will have an opportunity to compete in both the NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Indiana State Nov. 9 and the NCAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Wisconsin Nov. 17.
