Men’s Volleyball Finishes Season Atop Nation in Digs Per Set

MUNCIE, Ind.— The Ball State men's volleyball team finished the season with 10.45 digs per set, which places them first in the nation in that category. Charleston (WV) is the next highest on the list with 10.31 digs per set.
The Cardinals tallied 1,191 digs in 114 sets of play throughout the season. Ball State also finished the season ranked in other statistical categories. The Cardinals finished second in team attacks per set (29.73), 10th in opponent hitting percentage (.220), 20th in kills per set (11.98) and 22nd in assists per set (11.18). Ball State was also 27th in aces per set (1.29) and 17th in blocks per set with 2.26.
Individually, there are four Cardinals that were ranked nationally. Matt Walsh concluded the season ranked in both hitting percentage and blocks per set. He was sixth in blocks per set with 1.17 and 11th in hitting percentage at .385. Jake Romano can also be found in two places in the national rankings. Romano was 23rd with 9.05 assists per set along with 46th with 1.80 digs per set. Mitch Weiler finished the season ranked 33rd in digs per set with 1.97.
The Cardinals finished the season with an 18-12 record and 10-4 in the conference. Ball State ended the season in the MIVA Semifinals at Loyola, 3-1.
