Women’s Swimming & Diving Honored for Academic Excellence

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving program was one of 710 collegiate programs nationwide to be honored as a Spring 2018 Scholar All-America Team as announced by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
The Cardinals finished the 2018 spring semester with a combined 3.63 grade point average, which tied as the 15th-best GPA for an NCAA Division I women's program. In addition, Ball State's team GPA was the highest among programs from the state of Indiana and ranked second among Mid-American Conference schools.
Individually, sophomore diver Rachel Smallwood was named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention Team for the second consecutive season. Smallwood, a chemistry major with a 3.541 GPA, earned her spot on the list by maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA and qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
Smallwood advanced to the 1-meter board finals at the 2018 NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, becoming the first Ball State student-athlete to advance to zone finals since 2010. She finished 17th overall with a cumulative score of 531.35, just missing out on an NCAA Championship qualifying spot.
