MUNCIE, Ind. - Another athletic year is in the books for the Cardinals. Â Ball State student-athletes, coaches and teams accomplished several notable feats in 2017-18.

Through much discussion, BallStateSports.com has identified the top 10 storylines of the year. Â We are revealing the storylines one-by-one each week over a period of 10 weeks.

The stories are being revealed in chronological order, beginning with the fall season and running through the spring. Â We continue this week with a look back at the women's basketball team ending non-conference play with an 11-0 record for its best start in program history.

Women's Basketball Best Start In Program History

The Ball State women's basketball team ended non-conference action with an 11-0 record, making them one of only seven teams nationally that were still undefeated and one of two non-Power 5 teams on the list in 2017.
Â
The 11 straight non-conference wins also marked the second-largest win streak in program history (12 in 2008-09 which included a win over Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament).

The Cardinals ended non-conference action with Power 5 victories over Vanderbilt (88-79) and Purdue (66-60), along with wins over Big East opponent Butler (87-75) and Conference USA's Western Kentucky (93-81). Â At the end of non-conference play, Ball State ranked 21st nationally in the RPI.

Ball State women's basketball gained national attention as it was recognized by receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll and the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

For the fifth time in current head Coach Brady Sallee's tenure, the Cardinals punched their ticket straight to the MAC Tournament in Cleveland. Â Ball State also made it to the postseason Women's National Invitational Tournament for the sixth straight year under Sallee, advancing to the second round for the first time since the 2016 season. Â
