Women's Tennis Suffers 5-2 MAC Loss To Toledo
April 08, 2018 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (8-9, 0-4 MAC) suffered a 5-2 loss to Toledo (13-5, 3-2 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action Sunday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals took the quick lead in doubles after Victoria Sec and Peyton Gollhofer defeated the Rockets Megan Miller and Thalita Rodrgues (6-2) on court three. Toledo then managed to take the doubles point after earning victories on courts two and one in that order. Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington came back from being down 4-1 at No. 1 doubles and would tie the match at 5-5 but couldn't hold on for the win, resulting in a 7-5 loss for the twosome.
In singles action, Isabelle Dohanic was the first off the court after suffering a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Kokoro Chishaki at number four singles. On court two, Berger had dropped her first set to Sidnay Huck but had taking a significant lead in the second frame (4-1). Huck then fought her way back and would win a second set tiebreaker to put the Rockets up 3-0.
Gollhofer dropped the first frame 6-3 on the top court but then took the second set 6-3 over Leenabanchong to send the match to frame three. Unfortunately, Gollhofer would lose the three set thriller. It would be the fourth point the Rockets would need to take the victory from the Cardinals.
With two courts still remaining, both in third sets, Victoria Sec jumped ahead 5-1 in the third on court six and would go onto defeat Rodrgues.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action at home against Western Michigan Friday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
