MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team (9-9, 1-4 MAC) earned a thrilling 4-3 match over Western Michigan (11-10, 2-3 MAC) Friday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals opened by winning the doubles point over the Broncos. Ball State had the leads on courts one and two but it would be Sarah Swiderski alongside Isabelle Dohancis that would clinch the early lead for the Cardinals. The twosome defeated Valentina S. Briend and Jeryn Jack 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.
Rebecca Herrington would be the first Cardinal off the court in singles play. She took down S. Briend in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to push Ball State's lead to 2-0. Western Michigan then took the next three points from the Cardinals on courts three, two and one to take the 3-2 advantage over Ball State. Only two positions remained and both Victoria Sec and Dohanics had each taken the first sets from their respective opponents.
Sec gave the Cardinals back their lead with a win on five. Dohanics then fought her way back into the second set after being down 4-1 to send the match into a tiebreaker, she would take the second set 7-6 (4) to clinch the win for the Cardinals.
