Manon Tounalom leads Cardinals with second straight top-10 finish
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Ball State women's golf team dropped into a tie for sixth place Sunday to conclude play at Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
Â
The Cardinals entered the final round tied for second place but struggled to a team score of 321 on Sunday. They finished with a 36-hole total of 627 (+51), six shots out of a top-3 result on a chilly weekend at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Â
Manon Tounalom led Ball State with a 75 on the final day to climb into a tie for 10th place individually with a score of 152 (+8). It was the second straight top-10 finish and third of the season for the sophomore from France.
Â
UIndy, which began the day tied with BSU at two shots off the lead, jumped to the top of the 16-team leaderboard with a 294, the low round of the tournament by five strokes. The No. 2-ranked team in Division II finished three shots clear of overnight leader Toledo with a 36-hole total of 600 (+24).
Â
Ball State also counted an 80 from Liz Kim and a pair of 83's from Morgan Nadaline and Emily Knouff in the final round.
Â
Kim (+13) was the second BSU golfer on the final leaderboard in a tie for 27th. Sydney Anderson (+15) started the day in second place after opening with a 74 but dropped into a tie for 32nd after closing with an 85. Her sister Holly Anderson, competing as an individual, jumped up to match her after a closing 77.
Â
Ohio's Emily Hughes came from five shots back to claim individual medalist honors. Hughes' final-round 67 was the best score of the tournament by a remarkable five shots as she climbed to even-par (144) to edge first-round leader Pinyada Kuvanun of Toledo by one shot.
Â
Ball State now has one event remaining before the Mid-American Conference Championships. The Cardinals will tee it up next weekend at Purdue's Lady Boilermaker Classic on the Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana.
