April 06, 2018 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team won in dominating fashion by a score of 7-0 Friday afternoon against the University of Northern Iowa at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 8-8 overall while the Panthers fall to 3-9 for the year.
Ball State came out strong to start the match after sweeping doubles play against Northern Iowa. First off the court was the Ball State twosome of Julia Sbircea and Sarah Swiderski. Sbircea and Swiderski only gave up one game to Claudia Toledo and Savanna Hunt on court three. Isabelle Dohanics alongside teammate Lilya Hadab then clinched the point after their 6-4 take down over Harrie Proudfoot and Valentina Caro. Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington then finished doubles play off with a 7-5 defeat on the top court.
In singles action, the Cardinals took first sets from the Panthers on all six courts. Hadab and Sec both took their respective opponents down fairly quickly giving up only three games total winning 6-1, 6-2. The Cardinals needed just one more point to secure the win over the Panthers. Swiderski put the Cardinals up 4-0 after registering a 6-3, 6-2 win over Reghan Lynch.
After that, the Cardinals continued to dominate the match and would take victories from Northern Iowa at the number five and one singles positions. With the score 6-0, only one court remained. Dohanics had fought hard to take set one from Toledo at the No. 3 spot but found she was struggling in the second set down 5-4 only to soon make it 5-5. Dohanics went on to win the match, 7-5.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns to Mid-American Conference action Sunday at home against Toledo at 1 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
