Matt Walsh Named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention

MUNCIE, Ind. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 28th annual AVCA Division I-II Men's All-American Teams Monday afternoon. Ball State's Matt Walsh earned a place as an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.
This is the second time Walsh has earned this honor. He was named an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention last season as well.
In the 2018 season, Walsh led the way with 275 kills for a .385 hitting percentage and 2.43 kills per set. He also tallied a total of 133 blocks, 13 solo and 120 assisted, for 1.18 blocks per set. Walsh was also able to add 32 service aces and four assists on the season. He finished this year with 380 total points. His hitting percentage landed him fifth in the MIVA and 10th nationally to finish the season. Walsh's blocks per set earned him first in the conference and sixth nationally. The middle blocker earned MIVA player of week three times this season along with being named AVCA Player of the Week once. He was also named First Team All-MIVA.
Walsh finished out his career as a Cardinal with 809 total kills, placing him sixth in school history. He has a .398 career hitting percentage which also places him sixth in the Ball State record books. His 95 career service aces is third in school history. The Chicago native is second all-time in career blocks with 504. He is second in block assists (456) and seventh in solo blocks (48). Walsh racked up 1180 career points, second in school history.
The four-year letterwinner will graduate in May with a general studies degree.
