Women's Tennis Closes Out MAC Regular Season Action On A High Note
April 22, 2018 | Women's Tennis
AKRON, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team (11-10, 3-5 MAC) ended its Mid-American Conference regular season on a high note after posting a 5-2 win over Akron (14-12, 3-5 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the UA Tennis Courts.
Audrey Berger partnered up with teammate Rebecca Herrington for the early 6-1 win over Anna Ulajanov and Rita Pedroso on the top court to open doubles play. After that, the number three doubles tandem of Isabelle Dohanics and Sarah Swiderski clinched the point with their 6-3 take down over the Zips Waverly Wituski and Luisa Echeverry.
With the Cardinals up 1-0 heading into singles action, Swiderski quickly came off the court at the No. 3 spot after winning in straight sets over Pedroso. Peyton Gollhofer put Ball State up 3-0 after registering a 6-2, 6-2 defeat over Ulajanov on court two. Akron would earn its first point of the day at the No. 5 position but it wouldn't matter as Dohanics won her second set tiebreaker over Carli Knezevich 7-6 (3) to claim the victory for Ball State.
With the win, the Ball State women's tennis team locked up the No. 6 seed in the upcoming 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Cardinals are the host for the tournament and will take on No. 3 seeded Toledo Friday at 2 p.m. in the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
