Women's Tennis Ends The Weekend 2-0 In MAC Play With Win Over NIU Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (9-9, 2-4 MAC) ended its weekend with a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois (5-16, 0-7 MAC) Sunday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.
For the second-straight match the Cardinals took the doubles point from their respective opponent. Â Julia Sbircea, on her senior day, paired up with Peyton Gollhofer at number two doubles. Â The twosome was the first off the court after registering a 6-2 win over Northern Illinois' Evelyn Youel and Lara Slisko. Â Shortly after their match had concluded, Sarah Swiderski and Isabelle Dohanics took down Abigail Dekkinga and Brodie Walker 6-2 on court three to clinch the point for Ball State.
Audrey Berger took the first set 6-2 over Thisuri Molligoda on the top court, she was ahead 3-0 in the second before Molligoda withdrew herself to give the Cardinals a quick 2-0 lead over the Huskies. Â Herrington put the Cardinals up 3-0 with a straight set defeat at the No. 6 spot. Â After that, Gollhofer did not give up a game in the first set against Maria Potsi. Â She soon found herself down in the second set at the No. 2 position but fought her way back to win the tiebreak, 7-6. Â With the win, Gollhofer clinched the win for Ball State over Northern Illinois.
The Ball State women's tennis team will conclude Mid-American Conference action next weekend when it plays at Buffalo Friday and Akron Sunday. Â Both matches are scheduled for a 1 p.m. first serve.
