
Women's Tennis Drops First MAC Match To Miami, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team dropped its first Mid-American Conference match of the season after the Cardinals fell 6-1 to Miami Friday afternoon in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Cardinal fall to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in league play while Miami improves to 5-7 on the year and 1-0 in MAC action.
In doubles play, the RedHawks took a fast match on the top court by a score of 6-2. After that, the No. 3 doubles tandem of Peyton Gollhofer and Victoria Sec evened doubles after taking down Emily Struble and Melati Devi, 6-3. Despite their efforts, Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington suffered a 6-2 loss to Milana Lysova and Priyana Kalita to give Miami the first point of the match.
Miami quickly pushed its lead to 3-0 with wins on courts three and six, taking both matches in straight sets from Ball State. Gollhofer put up a good fight on the top court taking her opponent Nelli Ponomareva to a three sets but would drop the third frame, 6-3. Ponomareva's victory sealed the match point for the RedHawks.
Victoria Sec would end the day with a 6-4, 7-5 defeat over Vasiukhina at the No. 5 position for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on the road against Bowling Green Sunday. The match will be played in Perrysburgh, Ohio at 1 p.m.
