Men's Tennis Splits Saturday's Matches In East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis team (8-2) went 1-1 Saturday in the state of Michigan when the Cardinals dropped their first match to Michigan State by a score of 4-0 and then went on to win their afternoon match 4-1 against Detroit Mercy. Both matches were played at the MSU Indoor facility at Michigan State.
The Cardinals went 1-1 in doubles action losing the first doubles point to the Spartans in their early match but rebounded nicely with the victory over the Titans in the afternoon competition. Ball State's No. 2 doubles tandem of Marko Guzina and Conner Andersen defeated Detroit Mercy's Ismail Kadyrov and Nathan Ponton, 6-3. Chris Adams and Tom Carney then clinched the doubles win over the Titans with their 6-2 take down on court three over Gvidas Motuzas and Adam Zychowicz. The twosome also won their match over Billy Shisler and Davis Wong by the same score against Michigan State.
In singles action, against Michigan State the Cardinals suffered losses on courts two, three and six for the loss over the Spartans. Against Detroit Mercy, the Cardinals were up 1-0 after doubles play and then took victories at the number six, five and two positions for the win. Marko Guzina's 7-5, 6-3 take down over the Titans Ponton clinched the final point for the Cardinals. Bryce Bonin and Colin Rigney also took home victories on their respective courts versus Detroit Mercy.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns home next Saturday for a doubleheader against Taylor University at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
