Jake Romano Named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced this week's player of the week honors Tuesday morning, naming Ball State's Jake Romano as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Romano is being recognized for his performances against then No. 8 Lewis and then No. 6 Loyola-Chicago. He led the team in digs for the weekend with 27 and 3.86 digs per set. The Racine, Wisconsin native also had four block assists and one solo block for the weekend.
In the sweep of Lewis, Romano was named Off the Block Defensive Player of the Night. He had a team high 14 digs along with two block assists. The sophomore setter also led the team in assists with 30 against the Flyers. He added three service aces and two kills in the three sets of play.
Romano followed up that performance with another strong one in the win over Loyola. He led the team again in digs with 13. He also added 44 assists, three blocks, three kills and two service aces.
Romano and the rest of the Ball State squad will continue MIVA play this weekend with trips to Quincy and Lindenwood. The Cardinals will take on Quincy Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The team will then travel to Lindenwood on Saturday, Feb. 24 for a 7:30 p.m. match time.
