Stewart Named MAC Track Athlete of the Week
December 04, 2018 | Track & Field
CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For her run to the 60m victory at last Saturday's Bowling Green Opener, Ball State senior sprinter Peyton Stewart has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Â
"We are all really impressed with how well Peyton performed last weekend," head coach Brian Etelman said. "This is the quickest she has opened up in the 60, and as well as she performed, she would agree there was an opportunity for her to run faster Saturday. We are all certainly excited and looking forward to what this indoor season will bring for her"
Â
The runner-up in the 60m at last season's MAC Indoor Championships at BGSU's Perry Field House, Stewart made her 2018-19 indoor debut at the same track a memorable one by winning the 60m with a time of 7.52.
Â
Not only is it her fastest 60m time to open a season, it also ties as the third-fastest 60m run of her four-year career. Her only faster runs came in the prelims (7.50) and the finals (7.48) of last season's MAC Indoor Championships.
Â
With her time of 7.52 Saturday, Stewart was the only MAC student-athlete to post a league automatic qualifying time on the track opening weekend. In addition, her effort ranks first in the league and fifth among all NCAA Division I runners.
Â
The Ball State track & field team will now enjoy winter break before returning to action Jan. 11-12 at the Kentucky Invitational.
