Men’s Tennis Signs Three In Class of 2019
December 03, 2018 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State men's tennis coach Bill Richards announced today the signing of three recruits to National Letters of Intent in the 2019 recruiting class.
"These three guys give us a good start on our 2019 class," Richards said. "They don't have numbers that jump out at you, but they are individuals who are committed to working hard and getting better. They love Ball State and want to be here. Their best tennis is in front of them, and I am excited about their potential and what they will add to the program. We graduate four seniors this year so we still have a lot of work to do to replace those guys, but these signees give us a solid base."
Eli Herran (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo), Vince Orlando (Lansing, Mich./Home Schooled) and Abe Wojtalik (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) will all join the Cardinals roster in the fall of 2019.
Herran, a three-star recruit from Leo High School, received All-State First Team honors in 2017 and 2018. He won the Indiana state championship in doubles this season. According totennisrecruiting.net, Herran currently owns a national ranking of 276 and is 28th in the Midwest. He is also rated the sixth-best player in the state of Indiana.
Orlando is the son of Ball State tennis alumnus Gene Orlando who is also a member of the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame and played on four Mid-American Conference championship teams for Richards from 1984-87. Gene has been the head coach for the Michigan State men's tennis team since 1992. Vince did not play high school tennis as he was home schooled, but he did participate in many United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments over his career. Vince owns a 239 national ranking from tennisrecruiting.net, along with being the 24th best player in the Midwest and fifth in the state of Michigan.
Wojtalik comes to Ball State from Cathedral High School, where he earned All-State First Team honors in 2018. He ranks 419th nationally, 51st in the Midwest and ninth in the state of Indiana, according to tennisrecruiting.net.
