December 17, 2018 | Football
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2018 Academic All-MAC football team Monday, and 19 Ball State student-athletes were on the list. Ten of those 19 Cardinals are on the Academic All-MAC team for a second or third time.
Offensive lineman Danny Pinter, offensive lineman Zac Ricketts, tight end Kyle Schrank, defensive lineman Fred Schroeder and cornerback Marc Walton were selected to the Academic All-MAC team for a third time. Pinter and Schrank earned their Ball State bachelor's degree this past weekend.
Five other players made a return to this prestigious list for a second time – offensive lineman Chris Beech, wide receiver Riley Miller, quarterback Riley Neal, offensive lineman Andrew Poenitsch and offensive lineman Grant Williamson.
Offensive lineman Curtis Blackwell, linebacker Brock Burns, safety Bryce Cosby, linebacker Jimmy Daw, long snapper Joseph Greenwood, wide receiver Trevor Hohlt, running back Will Jones, quarterback Drew Plitt and linebacker Jordan Williams made their debut on the Academic All-MAC team.
Western Michigan was the only team in the league to have more student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC squad (20).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student who has excelled in athletics and academics. A student must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and participated in at least 50 percent of the contests to qualify for the award. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
