MUNCIE, Ind. -- Three members of the Ball State cross country team will return to the action Friday morning at 11:15 a.m. when they compete in the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional held in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Â
Representing the Cardinals in the women's 6K race at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course will be juniors Meliza Rodriguez and Lauren Whitehouse, as well as sophomore Emmalyne Tarsa.
Â
Rodriguez, who will be competing in her first NCAA Regional race, led the Cardinals to the finish line at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships (Oct. 27) with a career-fast 6K time of 22:45.6.
Â
Whitehouse, who was Ball State's sixth-fastest runner at this season's league meet, will be making her second appearance in NCAA Regional competition. She was the Cardinals' second-best performer at the 2016 NCAA Great Lakes Regional with a career-fast 6K clocking of 22:30.3 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Â
Tarsa enters her first NCAA Regional race coming off a strong showing at the 2018 MAC Championships, as she finished second on the team with a career-fast 6K effort of 22:49.4.
Â
While Ball State is not fielding a complete team at Friday's meet, the Cardinals' three runners could still qualify for the 2018 NCAA Championship if they are one of the first four student-athlete from a non-qualifying team in the regional race. The NCAA Championship meet will be held Nov. 17 in Madison.
