Matt Walsh Earns Two Player of the Week Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's volleyball player Matt Walsh was awarded with the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week along with the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honor both announced Tuesday.
Walsh was honored for his performances in the wins against Sacred Heart and Harvard. He tallied 27 total kills for a .625 hitting percentage and 3.00 kills per set. Walsh also knocked down 16 total blocks for 1.78 blocks per set. He added three service aces, one dig and one assist for the weekend. In his nine sets of play, he had 4.28 points per set. After last weekend's contest, Walsh is now second in Ball State history (during rally scoring era) in total career blocks with 402.
In the 3-2 win over Sacred Heart, Walsh had 15 kills for a match high .636 hitting percentage. He was able to record two service aces and six blocks.
Walsh was able to add 12 more kills in the 3-1 win over Harvard. He had one solo block and nine block assists, placing him in eighth in school history for total blocks in a four set match. Walsh also had one assist and one service ace against the Crimson.
This is Walsh's first MIVA Player of the Week honor of the season and his first career AVCA Player of the Week honor.
Walsh and the rest of the Cardinal squad will travel to Fairfax, Virginia to take on No. 12 Pepperdine and George Mason in the Uvaldo Acosta Invitational. The 14th ranked Ball State men's volleyball team will take on No. 12 Pepperdine Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals will then take on George Mason on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m.
