August 08, 2017 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Another athletic year is in the books for the Cardinals. Ball State student-athletes, coaches and teams accomplished several notable feats in 2016-17 and left their mark on the university.
Through much discussion, BallStateSports.com has identified the top 10 storylines of the year. We have revealed the storylines one-by-one each week for the past 10 weeks. Later this week, fans will be able to vote for their favorite stories of the year.
The stories have been revealed in chronological order, beginning with the fall season and running through the spring. We end this year with a look back at men's tennis senior Lucas Andersen who, for the first time in program history, earned back-to-back Mid-American Conference Player of the Year honors …
Lucas Andersen makes program history
Ball State senior Lucas Andersen collected Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and All-MAC First Team honors for the second time in his career. He is the first Cardinal in program history to earn back-to-back MAC Player of the Year accolades. Andersen ended his career as a four-time All-MAC recipient, having also earned second- team honors twice. The No. 1 singles player from Greenwood, Indiana, completed his career with a 79-46 overall singles mark and an 18-5 conference ledger.
Andersen also played a big part in the Cardinals' 2014 MAC Tournament win at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. His three-set singles win on court three as a true freshman clinched the 4-3 victory over fourth-seeded Buffalo that season. After his performance, Andersen was named to the All-MAC Tournament Team.
Andersen will continue his career as a Cardinal next season, but in a different capacity as the Ball State men's tennis graduate assistant.
