The Ball State soccer team travels to the state of Texas this weekend for two games against Big 12 Conference opponents, visiting TCU and Baylor. Sunday's contest with Baylor has been moved up half an hour and will start at 11:30 a.m. CT (12:30 p.m. ET).
Â
The Cardinals will be meeting both of this weekend's opponents for the first time in program history. BSU has only played two previous games against Big 12 opponents -- Iowa State (1999) and Oklahoma (2008).
Â
The Teams
• Ball State enters the weekend with a record of 1-2-1. The Cardinals played twice last weekend, falling 1-0 at Big East foe Xavier and playing Appalachian State to a 1-1 draw at home.
Â
• TCU owns a record of 3-1-0. The Horned Frogs split two games last weekend with a 1-0 loss at Colorado and a 2-1 win at Northern Colorado. TCU has outscored its opponents 12-2 through four games.
Â
• Baylor enters the weekend at 2-0-1, coming off a scoreless draw at Rice. The Bears own wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and Wyoming. They will play Friday at home against UTSA before Ball State's visit on Sunday.
Â
About the Cardinals
• Both of Ball State's opponents this weekend are members of the Big 12 Conference. The Cardinals have found a measure of success recently against Power 5 conference teams. BSU is 1-1-2 against such teams dating back to 2015, including a 1-0 win at Louisville (ACC) last season in double overtime. The Cardinals earned a pair of draws at LSU (SEC) and Indiana (Big Ten) during the 2015 season and suffered a loss at Notre Dame (ACC) earlier this year.
Â
• Ball State improved its home record over the past three seasons to 17-0-4 with a 1-1 draw Sunday against Appalachian State in the team's most recent action. Junior Emily Scott scored in the 70th minute to tie the game and keep the Cardinals from a rare home loss.
Â
• The Cardinals' depth of talent has already been on display this season. Through four games, 15 different players have made at least one start.
Â
• Dating back to the start of 2015, Ball State has surrendered one goal or fewer in 39 of its past 44 contests. The Cardinals have ranked among the top 25 nationally in goals against average in each of the past two seasons and have led the MAC in that category three times in the past four years.
