Track & Field Places 11 on Academic All-MAC Squad

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - A total of 11 members of the Ball State track & field program were named to the 2017 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-Mid-American Conference team as announced by the league office.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residency are not eligible.
Of Ball State's 11 honorees, senior Ericka Rinehart earned the award of the third time this school year, as she was also named to the Academic All-MAC Team for both cross country and indoor track & field. Overall, Rinehart is a nine-time career Academic All-MAC honoree, earning the award every time she has been eligible.
Senior Olivia Ashba earned Academic All-MAC honors for the sixth time in her career by sweeping the indoor and outdoor honors for the past three seasons.
Juniors Gabby Sims and Anna-Kay West picked up their fourth career Academic All-MAC honor, sweeping the indoor and outdoor awards the last two seasons.
In addition, senior Kassidy Swenson earned Academic All-MAC accolades for the fourth time in her career, after sweeping the honors this track & field season and earning the award for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 outdoor campaigns.
Four Ball State student-athletes swept Academic All-MAC honors this season, making them two-time honorees; junior Adrienne Mayfield, sophomore Regan Lewis, sophomore Stephanie McElhaney and sophomore Peyton Stewart.
Senior Danielle Dahl also became a two-time honoree, after also earning the award for the 2016 indoor season, while junior Kitty Taylor earns the award for the first time in her career.
Ball State's 11 honorees are now eligible for the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete award which is voted on by the faculty athletic representatives from each MAC institution. The award is presented to student-athletes from the Academic All-MAC Team who have excelled in athletics and academics.
