Two Former Football Cardinals Sign NFL Free Agent Deals
May 03, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The transition from college to professional football is officially underway for several former Ball State football players including Martez Hester and KeVonn Mabon. Those two players signed free agent deals with teams from the National Football League (NFL).
Hester, one of the 2016 team captains, signed with the Indianapolis Colts. The safety was a two-year starter for Ball State who finished fourth on the team with 72 tackles this past fall. The native of Kennesaw, Georgia, finished his career with 234 tackles and four interceptions.
Mabon agreed to a deal with the Tennessee Titans. The wide receiver earned all-league accolades for the third consecutive year in 2016. He established a new school record for career receptions (244) in the 2016 season finale against Miami. Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Mabon led Ball State in receptions in 10 of the 12 games last fall and ranked second in the Mid-American Conference in receptions per game (7.1). Mabon ranks third in the program annals in career receiving yards (2,862).
Meanwhile, offensive lineman Drake Miller (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), defensive lineman Joshua Posley (Chicago Bears) and linebacker Aaron Taylor (Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans) have received mini-camp invites.
The Cardinals kick off their 2017 season the first weekend in September with a trip to Illinois. Ball State's home opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 9 against UAB. Season ticket purchases can be made on-line at BallStateSports.com (CLICK HERE).
