Ball State Concludes Regular Season with 9-3 Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Ball State baseball team wrapped up its regular season Saturday afternoon with a 9-3 victory over Central Michigan. The Cardinals won two of three games at CMU.
Thanks to today's victory and Ohio's loss, Ball State (30-26, 14-10 MAC) will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Cardinals will face Ohio, the No. 5 seed, in opening round action this Wednesday, May 24.
Ball State broke open today's game with a five-run second inning. A bases-clearing triple from senior Matt Eppers highlighted the frame, scoring junior Seth Freed, sophomore Griffin Hulecki and senior Alex Maloney.
Senior pitcher Kevin Marnon provided a solid effort in relief to earn his team-leading sixth win. The lefty went 3.2 innings, struck out four batters and did not allow a hit or walk. Ball State's bullpen held Central Michigan to just one hit the final seven innings.
Freed finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Senior Sean Kennedy reached base four times on three singles and a walk. Kennedy scored once and tallied one RBI.
This is the fifth straight season Ball State has reached 30 wins.
