Women's Tennis Season Comes To An End With MAC Tourney Semifinal Loss To Miami

The Ball State women's tennis team won its second-consecutive MAC regular season title last weekend with its 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Akron, also earning the right to host next year's tournament. The Cardinals ended the season with a 20-2 overall mark and a perfect 8-0 league ledger.
Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris has led the Cardinals to a 75-21 overall record over the last four seasons and has posted a 25-6 conference ledger. He has brought the program to new heights after leading Ball State to its first-ever MAC Regular season and tournament title along with the programs first NCAA appearance in 2016.
The Cardinals quickly took a 1-0 advantage over the RedHawks to start today's contest after winning the doubles point. Audrey Berger and Julia Sbircea took down Miami's No. 2 twosome of Hannah Shteyn and A. Vasiukhina fairly easily, winning the match 6-2. After that, the Cardinals No. 1 doubles tandem of Carmen Blanco and Peyton Gollhofer clinched the point for Ball State with their 6-3 defeat over Miami's Nelli Ponomareva and A. Shapovalova.
The RedHawks dominated singles play, winning first sets on all but one court. Berger was the lone Cardinal to take her first stanza from Miami's A. Vasiukhina winning the match 6-2, 6-2 on court No. 6 which put Ball State up 2-0. The RedHawks then quickly took victories on courts four and three, respectively to tie the match 2-2.
With three courts remaining, Blanco gave the Cardinals hope after taking the second set from Nelli Ponomareva at No. 1 singles position, 6-3. Ball State just needed one more singles match to go into three sets to give the Cardinals a glimmer of hope but Dohanics and Gollhofer ended the match losing in second set tiebreakers.
