Men's Tennis Season Ended By WMU At MAC Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis season came to an end on Friday as the No. 3 seeded Cardinals fell 4-2 to No. 2 Western Michigan in the semifinals of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament being held at the Broncos' Sorensen Courts. The Cardinals closed the season with a 13-13 record while the Broncos advance to the title match with a 16-7 ledger.

Ball State dropped the doubles point to Western Michigan to start the match. Conner Andersen and Tom Carney were the first twosome off the court after suffering a 6-2 loss at the No. 2 spot. The Broncos would clinch the point at the top court after Daniel Loebel teammed up with Kennosuke Nouchi for a 6-3 decision over Ball State senior duo Andrew Stutz and Lucas Andersen. Twins Marko Guzina and Nemanja Guzina were leading at the No. 3 position 4-3 before the match went unfinished.

Western Michigan quickly went up 2-0 after Stutz suffered a straight set (6-1, 6-0) setback versus Hamilton at the No. 2 position. After that, Lucas Andersen earned the Cardinals their first point of the day as he breezed through his match winning in straight sets over Nouchi, 6-2, 6-1. But it wasn't enough for the Cardinals to build off of as Patrick Downs and Nemanja Guzina fell at the No. 6 and No. 3 spots respectively to give the Broncos their fourth point.
