Cardinals Close Regular Season at Kent State Friday
March 09, 2017 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind.-- The Ball State Cardinals look to draw upon last weekends win and season high (195.450) over UIC (195.175) and Western Michigan (194.300) this Friday, Mar. 10, in Kent, Ohio, where the team will face Kent State to close out its regular season at 7 p.m. EST.Â
"Last weekend we were able to stay competitive while having fun," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "I believe the team will go into Kent's arena with the same mentality and the same driving force to come out on top. We have worked hard to clean up our gymnastics and to gain every tenth back."Â
Last weekend the Cardinals were at Western Michigan where they managed a new season high bar score of 48.850, a 49.000 on vault, 48.850 on floor and a score of 48.750 on beam.
The team started the competition on beam where Baylee Bell earned third place with a score of 9.825. Madison Howell's debut on beam was rewarding with a score of 9.750.
Â
The Cardinals had great showings from Clare Collins and Kaitlyn Menzione who tied for fourth place on floor with scores of 9.800.
Â
On vault Menzione stuck her way into first place with a new personal best score of 9.875. Senior Sarah Ebeyer followed in second with a score of 9.850 and freshman Bri Slonim stood fourth as the second Cardinal to stick her landing with a 9.800.
Â
The team concluded the meet on bars where Jordyn Penny claimed second place with a 9.825. Menzione followed in third place with a score of 9.800.
Â
"I'm excited as we get closer to the Mid-American Conference Championships," Saleem stated. "I believe that all seven teams will fight for the win and I think it will be an exciting night with a lot of great gymnastics."
The Cardinals prepared to travel to Bowling Green, Ohio Saturday, March 18, for the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships at 2 p.m. hosted by Bowling Green University.
