Five Cardinals Receive All-MAC WBB Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Five members of the Ball State women's basketball team were honored Tuesday when the Mid-American Conference announced its annual post-season awards. Senior center Renee Bennett was named First Team All-MAC, while junior forward Moriah Monaco was selected Second Team All-MAC and sophomore guard Carmen Grande earned honorable mention honors. Additionally, sophomore guard Destiny Washington was tabbed the MAC's Sixth Player of the Year, and senior guard Calyn Hosea was named to the All-MAC Defensive Team.
This marks the sixth time Ball State has placed at least three players on the All-MAC squads in the same season, with the others being 2014-15, 2008-09, 2007-08 and 1982-83.
Bennett received First Team All-MAC honors For the first time in her career. She has played in 126 games for her career and has started in 78 of them. She became the 26th member of Ball State's 1,000-point club at Bowling Green this season and currently sits in 12th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,226 career points. Bennett ranks second all-time in blocks (99) and 12th in rebounds (654) in school history. She started the season with back-to-back double-doubles, which hadn't happened for a Ball State player since 2009. Bennett has currently registered 10 double-doubles this season and 12 for her career. She scored a career-high 28 points against Oakland and Lipscomb and pulled down a personal- best 15 rebounds at home against Bowling Green. Bennett has scored in double figures in 29 of the Cardinals' 30 games this season. She earned Mid-American Conference weekly honors for the week of Dec. 13. Bennett ranks first on the team in scoring (17.9) and rebounding (8.3).
Monaco earned all-conference honors for the second time. The junior forward registered a career -high 35-point performance at Buffalo this season and ranks second on the team in scoring (16.4) and first in 3-point field goals made (61). Monaco has scored in double figures in 24 of the Cardinals' 30 games this season and has started in every contest this year. She became the third player this season and the 27th in program history to reach 1,000 points for her career last month against Central Michigan.
Grande who was on the All-MAC Freshman Team last season was tabbed to the Honorable Mention squad. The Madrid, Spain, native currently ranks fourth in the country in assists (7.6 apg). She dished out a career- best 14 assists versus Central Michigan, and tying the program's record for assists in single game, which has only happened on three occasions. Grande broke the BSU single-season assist record in a season on Feb. 22 at Western Michigan. Grande has 227 assists so far this year.
Washington has been a key to the Cardinals' success this season. She has recorded four double-doubles this year, scoring a season- high 25 points against Akron. She earned MAC West Player of the Week honors on Feb. 7. She is the third- best scorer on the team, coming off the bench averaging 10.3 points per game and 6.0 rebounds. She is second on the team in field goal percentage at .554 (133-of-240).
Hosea has played in 124 games for her career. This season Hosea has been a consistent starter for Ball State and has had the best scoring season of her career with 179 points. Two Saturdays ago she registered a season and career- high 16-point performance in a road win at Northern Illinois. Hosea pulled down a career best nine rebounds this year at home against Kent State. She currently ranks sixth on the team in scoring, averaging 6.5 points per contest and second in steals (41). This is Hosea's first time to be honored by the MAC.
