Matt Walsh named MIVA Defensive Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced Lewis' Matt Yoshimoto as Offensive Player of the Week and Ball State's own Matt Walsh as Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

Walsh was honored for his performances against Grand Canyon last week. He led the team in blocks with 20 (four solo blocks and 16 block assists), averaging 2.50 blocks per set. In the 3-0 sweep of GCU, Walsh had three solo blocks and nine block assists. Those 12 total blocks are the most by a player in a three set match this season in the nation.

Walsh and the rest of the Cardinal squad will suit up again Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 in the Ohio State Tournament. Ball State takes on UC Irvine Friday and will face UC San Diego Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 5 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
