LIVE SCORING
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Make it four straight rounds the Ball State women's golf team has spent at the top of the leaderboard.
The Cardinals, who led for the final two rounds on their way to a victory earlier this week at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, are at it again at the EKU Colonel Classic.
Ball State posted the lowest score in each of the tournament's first two rounds Friday, finishing the second 18 holes just before dark to take an 11-stroke lead. On top of that, the Cardinals ended the day with three players in the top 5 individually.
Led by sophomore Sydney Anderson, who sits in second place, Ball State carded a 36-hole total of 600 (+24) at the University Club at Arlington. BSU opened with a 303 in the morning round and bettered that by six shots in the afternoon with the only sub-300 round of the event so far.
Tournament host Eastern Kentucky (+35) is second with one round to play. Tennessee Tech (+40), Ohio (+45) and Austin Peay (+49) are next in the 13-team field.
Anderson came out on fire, making birdies on four of her first eight holes, to get deep into red figures quickly Friday. The Columbus, Indiana, product cooled slightly but finished with an even-par 72 in the first round. She followed it with a steady 73 in the afternoon and finds herself just two strokes off the lead at 1 over par.
Tennessee Tech's Allyson Dunn leads the way at 1 under after carding rounds of 71 and 72.
Ball State seniors Allison Lindley and Kelsey Sear trail Anderson by four strokes for second place but are only one spot behind her on the leaderboard in a tie for third. They matched each other shot for shot on day one with identical 77's in the first round and 72's in the second on the way to 5-over-par totals. Lindley entered the tournament fresh off a win earlier in the week at Kingsmill.
Manon Tounalom (+14) in 27th place and Morgan Nadaline (+16) in 36th are also performing well for the Cardinals against the 83-player field.
The third and final round of the EKU Colonel Classic begins Saturday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
