Women’s Golf Starts Fast in Hawaii

Kelsey Sear leads Cardinals on Day 1 in Aloha State
LEADERBOARD
KAILUA, Hawaii -- The Ball State women's golf team opened the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Tuesday with its best away-from-home round of the year.
The Cardinals posted a team score of 300 (+12) over the opening 18 holes that put them three strokes ahead of No. 34 North Carolina and just three behind No. 19 Oklahoma State.
Ball State found itself in the middle of the pack after the opening round at Kaneohe Clipper Golf Course, tied for eighth in a 15-team field that includes 10 top-100 squads.
The Cardinals were steady in the second round but dropped some spots to end the day in 13th place with a 36-hole score of 607 (+31).
Seniors Kelsey Sear and Allison Lindley led the way on day one. Both fired under-par rounds to open the tournament, Sear a 70 (-2) and Lindley a 71 (-1). Both found themselves in the top 10 through 18 holes, with Sear tied for third in a field that includes 14 players ranked among the top 100 in the country.
The duo led the Cardinals again in the afternoon round, with Sear carding a 76 and Lindley a 77. Sear finished the day tied for 17th at 146 (+2), and Lindley was tied for 29th at 148 (+4).
Manon Tounalom (78-78) and Morgan Nadaline (81-76) also provided a pair of counting rounds for the Cardinals on day one.
Texas A&M, the No. 16 team in the country, leads the tournament at 572 (-4), followed by Washington State (Even), Oklahoma State (+9) and Texas (+10). Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M holds a one-shot advantage on the individual leaderboard at 138 (-6).
The tournament's final round will be played Wednesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. local time (2 p.m. ET). Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
