Men's Tennis Falls To No. 23 Illinois

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team played a mid-week non-conference dual match Wednesday afternoon against No. 23 Illinois in West Lafayette. The Cardinals suffered a 6-1 loss to Illinois and now drop to 5-5 in spring action. The match against the Fighting Illini marked the fourth Big Ten foe opponent Ball State has faced this season.
Illinois jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage over Ball State after registering doubles wins on courts two and three. At the No. 3 spot, Marko Guzina and teammate Matt Helm managed to take three games from Aron Hiltzik and Aleks Vukic but fell by a score of 6-3. On court two, Lucas Andersen and Tom Carney fell 6-2 while Conner Andersen and Andrew Stutz were down 5-3 before the point had been clinched.
In singles action, Illinois took five of the six from the Cardinals for the victory, all in straight sets. Jan Jirus was the lone Cardinal to earn a win today after his 6-2, 6-1 take down over Pablo Landa at the No. 6 spot.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues non-conference action at home Saturday as the Cardinals host a double-header against wright State (1 p.m.) and Taylor (4:30 p.m.) at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
